What is your passion and how do you find it? This article is designed to help you discover what key elements are needed in order to find your passion in your life.
What is your passion and how to tell when you have it
What is your passion? When most people think about the idea of their passion, they typically think about if from the idea of a life purpose. Since before recorded history, we have been trying to figure out what the purpose is of our lives and of life in general. And this isn’t surprising. We are, by nature, a teleological species. We seek to find purpose and meaning in our lives.
The only problem that occurs when you are trying to figure out what your passion is in this way is that it limits your possibilities of having other types of things that you’re interested in. It also puts pressure on you to find your one passion that you’ll be working on for the rest of your life! That’s some serious pressure!
For me, the lack of guidance growing up caused me to want to help guide others towards living healthier, happier, more fulfilling lives. Many times, it’s the pit falls in our history that compel us to create better futures for ourselves.
I have a good friend who was tragically orphaned as a young teenager. Because of her experiences through this, she is now passionate about helping orphans live a better life. What pitfalls happened in your past that you may be passionate about now?
When people come from this perspective, many times, they’ll contact me because they may think they know what their passion is but they aren’t completely certain. Not because what they think is their passion isn’t something that they love but because there are other things that they are passionate about as well. And nobody wants to be wrong when it comes to what they are going to do for the rest of their lives.
You Probably Have More Than One Passion
One of my biggest passions is helping other people live healthier, happier, and more fulfilling lives. But I have other things that I am deeply passionate about as well. I am deeply passionate about interpersonal communication and the different ways people communicate with each other, I am passionate about understanding learning processes and how people internalize information, and I’m passionate about different forms of art through music and two dimensional forms.
It would probably be much more beneficial for you to come from the standpoint of “what are your passions” instead of “what is your passion”… because then, instead of putting pressure on yourself to have one life interest, you can have a great many different interests. This will be beneficial because then you can have the freedom to explore the different realms of passion that you have in your own life and not feel obligated to just one.
What does passion feel like?
When you discover what your passion is, how will you know when you have it? When you ask most people to describe passion, most people will mention some type of feeling that they have which makes them feel happy, enthusiastic and alive.
I challenge you to look for that feeling inside of yourself and explore with it for a while. How does it feel? Where do you feel it in your body? Does it radiate around your body or stay in one place? What does your passion feel like?
The closer you come to understanding the feeling of passion, the easier it will be for you to know what makes you feel that way. Spend some time exploring the feeling of passion when you get a chance. It will be well worth it in the long run.
What is Your Passion and What Do You Value?
One of the most important things that you can do, in order to figure out what your passions are, is to figure out what your values are. Your values are simply the things that you value most in your life. Many times, this seems like it would be obvious but it really is not.
Most people, instead of focusing on what is important and valuable to them, get distracted by pressures in our society and expectations from friends and loved ones. So instead of living a life that is passionate and important to them, they get caught up in things that they don’t truly even care about. Don’t let this happen to you.
Sit down and deliberately think about what your passion is by focusing on the things that are most valuable to you in life. And when you discover what your values are, spend most of your time focusing solely on them. This will lead you to discovering how your values relate to each other and how you can use them to connect yourself and your life to a bigger world vision.
Again, these are the steps:
1. Figure out what is most important to you in your life
2. Eliminate anything that is distracting you from spending most of your time doing the things that are most important to you.
3. Take small steps that constantly make you better and better and doing the things that are most important to you.
4. Connect what you’re doing with a big picture world view.

I know what it feels like to live a life devoid of passion. I spent years in a state like that. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life. I wasn’t certain about anything that I was doing. My life began to look completely empty and meaningless… I was just waiting for something new to come along… wishing and hoping that I could have the fire for life that I once had.
You don’t have to wait any longer. You don’t have to hope and wish for some kind of miracle to come into your life. You have the power within yourself to decide what your life is going to be like.
Decide right now that you’re going to do whatever it takes to begin living a life filled with passion. The last thing that you want is to spend the next 30 years of your life only to look back on it and wish that you could have made something more of yourself, kicking yourself because you had the chance, in your life right now, to make every minute of your life amazing but didn’t take it.
Get Rid of All Distractions
We live in an age like no other. We live in a time when we have more things distracting us, pulling us and our attention towards living for other people’s goals, other people’s values… towards things that may not be in our best interest.
The only way that you can ensure that you live an amazing life is if you take responsibility, right now, for putting yourself in charge of your own life. You need to deliberately and systematically start focusing on the things that you are most passionate about in your life.
And if you don’t narrow your focus down systematically, you’ll never live a life filled with passion because you’ll be too busy doing… whatever… to your time doing what is most important to you.
The things are the most important to you in your life won’t knock on your door, holding you accountable to do them. It’s the crises that typically demand our attention.
The absolute best way to begin focusing on your highest priorities, the things that you care about most in your life, is to schedule in time, every single day, in order to make sure that you’re constantly moving forward in them.
